PHILADELPHIA, PA A bill awaiting Governor Ridge s signature will allow all counties to levy up to a 3% tax on the cost of hotel and motel rooms, with the money collected to be used to promote tourism and tourist activities.
Locally, the measure is expected to be beneficial, but have less impact. Delaware, Montgomery and Chester Counties already levy room taxes of 2%; Bucks County is at the 3% limit; and Philadelphia charges 7%. The 3% limit would apply only to counties that do not already have a higher tax. (12/6/00)
