WASHINGTON, D.C. At the fifth annual Cornell University Hospitality Industry Strategy Conference being held here this week, David Butler, dean of the School of Hotel Administration for Cornell University, kicked off the event by noting that the industry s future is increasingly difficult to see clearly.
“It s trite to say change is accelerating rapidly. It will be important then, how we adapt to that change. I believe academics and the hotel industry must work closer together for a bright future,” said Butler.
William Tiefel, vice chairman of Marriott International and co-chair of the Conference, noted that the environment is different and that we are falling behind the curve in education.
“The focus on education should not stop with us, but those who will replace us,” said Tiefel. (3/22/01) Shannon McMullen
