SEATTLE—Seattle-based hospitality management and consulting company Columbia Hospitality, Inc., has revealed a new management and operating agreement with Sagebrush Inn & Suites. Located in scenic Taos, N.M., the 156-room Inn and conference is the first management acquisition for the company in New Mexico.
“Sagebrush Inn & Suites is the ideal addition to our expanding collection of unique properties,” said John Oppenheimer, Columbia Hospitality founder and CEO. “The opportunity to bring our company’s expertise in providing exceptional guest experiences to the Sagebrush is an honor. The current ownership shares Columbia Hospitality’s commitment to service, and we are looking forward to working with the existing team and local Taos community.”
In 2013, James Haimsohn and Jared Steinberg of San Diego, Calif., purchased the Sagebrush. Haimsohn, a veteran of the hospitality industry, and Steinberg, a real estate and asset management specialist, will continue ownership of the Sagebrush with Columbia Hospitality assuming management and operations. The owners were initially drawn to the location, history and potential for growth.
“When Jared and I purchased the Sagebrush, we had a clear vision—to restore its prominence within the market and position it as a top lodging choice in the region. I think we’re on the right path, and are excited for what’s to come,” said owner James Haimsohn.
Located in northern New Mexico, the historic Taos landmark opened in 1931, hosting famed American painter Georgia O’Keefe, who lived at the property for 10 months. Sagebrush Inn & Suites is accessible from area attractions and outdoor adventures including Taos Ski Valley in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, historic churches, golfing at Taos Country Club and art museums.
The property also features the Sagebrush Conference Center, the largest conference space in town, offering more than 13,000 sq. ft. of flexible event space. The grounds include patio and courtyard space for gathering, an outdoor swimming pool and three hot tubs. The rooms and suites at the Sagebrush provide a mix of modern and traditional Southwestern style, including hand-carved furniture and regional artwork. In addition to the hotel, Columbia Hospitality will assume operations of catering and the newly restored Sagebrush Grill & Cantina.
