LOS ANGELES— Hospitality design firm Cole Martinez Curtis and Associates has been handed two hotel renovation projects in Carmel, CA, and Chicago. In Carmel, CMCA will redesign the Best Western Carmel Mission Inn. When the redesign and renovation are complete, the hotel will be relaunched by its owner, Pacific Valley Investors, as a boutique hotel. The project will incorporate the hotel’s 165 guestrooms, public spaces, restaurant, lounge, spa, fitness center, exterior and entrance plaza. The overall project, which is already under way, will be phased. As a result, the hotel will remain open during the project, which is scheduled to be complete by February 2008. In Chicago, CMCA will now be working on the renovation of the 495-room Chicago City Centre Hotel, which will be rebranded under a national upscale chain upon completion of the project. For the property’s owner, Oxford Lodging, CMCA is specifically redesigning the hotel’s guestrooms, lobby, meeting rooms, bar and restaurant. Overall, CMCA is looking to create a more contemporary, urban look at the hotel. The renovation, which is already under way, is scheduled to be finished in March 2008.
