DENVER Cuchara Mountain Resort will most likely not open for skiing this year. As Texas owner John Laus negotiations to sell the resort to an unnamed buyer continue into the third month, the possibility of opening the ski area for the holiday season has been dismissed outright and the chance of any operations for the 2000-2001 ski season are dwindling. More than a month ago, the potential buyer of the resort had expressed a determination to keep the resort open this winter, and in early November, negotiations were reportedly in the final stages. “We thought we were close but then it just backed away from us,” a spokesperson said. Several other potential buyers have stepped forward, but negotiations with them are just beginning. (12/13/00) Source: The Denver Post
