SILVER SPRING, MD— Choice Hotels International is reportedly gearing up to reign in Spain, in addition to making its mark in Denmark. According to HVS International, Choice is planning to make its debut in Spain by franchising eight hotels in Barcelona, and one hotel each in Madrid and Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. Choice will reportedly operate in that country through the Spanish hotelier Hoteles On-line and, as such, the U.S.-based lodging company is said to be aiming at having 20 hotels in Spain by the end of the year. Meanwhile, Choice Hotels Scandinavia— through its subsidiary, Choice Hotels Denmark— is ostensibly in line to acquire three hotels (and an office building) in Denmark for a total of nearly US$5 million. As noted by HVS, Choice Hotels would relinquish ownership of the properties to the newly formed company Aabenraa Holding in return for 48.7% of the company’s share capital. SOURCE: HVS International
