PORT CHARLOTTE, FL Despite a slow December, Charlotte County s hotel and motel occupancy rates increased during the last three months of 2000. During December 2000, average occupancy was 51%, while during the previous month and December 1999, occupancy was around 53.9%.
Hotel and motel occupancy rates increased from the previous year by 2.5% to 42.5% in October, while condominium occupancy rates inched up 3.3%. The trend continued into November as occupancy rates increased by 2.7% over the previous year. It is estimated that 91.5% of visitors to the county during the fourth quarter were leisure travelers while 7.5% visited for business purposes. (2/22/01)
