NEW YORK— Cendant Corp. will start seeking buyers for its British car parking unit in the next two weeks to raise money for acquisitions in its core travel business, sources close to the situation told Reuters. Cendant, which owns Avis car rental, is hoping to get at least $1.4 billion for National Car Parks, the sources said. Cendant bought the parent company, National Parking Corp., three years ago for $1.3 billion, but since then Cendant sold National Parkings roadside assistance unit, Green Flag, for $410 million. Additional real estate holdings also were sold for an undisclosed amount, but estimated at “several hundred million dollars,” one of the sources said. Those sales, coupled with the three years of income generated by National Car Parks means Cendant will turn a nice profit on the business if it can obtain its hoped-for price. No deal is expected until at least April. SOURCE: Reuters
