LAS VEGAS— Smart Systems International (SSI) reported that Carlson Hotels Worldwide has selected its energy management solutions for several of Carlsons company-owned Country Inns and Suites properties. Smart Systems solutions will be incorporated to manage in-room energy consumption and maximize guest comfort, according to the company. It noted that its environmental control solutions were tested for several months and demonstrated substantial energy cost savings, product reliability and a high-level of environmental comfort for guests. Country Inns and Suites needed a viable solution to cost effectively manage the heating and cooling of 454 rooms in four properties in Minnesota and New Jersey, according to Bob Johnson, director of operations for the brand. “After four months of testing, we experienced, on average, 22.5% reduction in energy consumption in the rooms tested,” Johnson said. A financing package developed by Smart Systems “will not negatively impact our cash flow,” Johnson added. “In fact, the savings were expecting exceed the total monthly lease payment for the equipment.” The system includes labeled wireless thermostats, controllers and infrared occupancy sensors along with Recovery Time technology, which allows room temperatures to drift to energy-saving levels when a room is unoccupied and then quickly recover to a guests desired temperature upon their return.
