SACRAMENTO, CA— The California Travel and Tourism Commission has launched a national public information campaign called “Enlighten.” The program, which is directed to visitors to the state, provides a number of energy-savings tips, which will be distributed at California Welcome Centers and other tourist locations around the state. The tips are also available at www.visitcalifornia.com/energy, or may be obtained by calling (800) 862-2543. Carolyn Beteta, executive director, California Travel and Tourism Commission, is also urging California hoteliers to check out the site, which also includes specific tips for hospitality companies and their guests. “In addition to assuring travelers ‘the lights are still on’ in California, the ‘Enlighten’ campaign provides our hospitality partners with strategies to save, reduce costs, and give their guests suggestions helping consumer power,’ she noted. Travel and tourism expenditures totaled $75.4 billion 2000, provided employment for 1.1 million Californians, and generated $4.9 billion in tax revenues.
