LOS ANGELES— Caesars Entertainment Inc. said February 18, 2004 that it had reached a preliminary agreement with a California tribe to develop and manage a $200 million casino and hotel complex outside of Fresno. The preliminary deal with the Big Sandy Band of Western Mono Indians, which already has one casino, depends on the tribe amending its gambling compact with the state of California, said Las Vegas-based Caesars, the worlds largest casino operator. Caesars said the casino, about 200 miles north of Los Angeles, could be up and running 18 months to 24 months after getting regulatory approvals, including the compact change. Nevada casino operators looking to expand have been striking deals with California tribes. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is reaching out to tribes to change compacts and strike new ones in ways to bring in new revenue for the budget. SOURCE: Reuters
