LOS ANGELES Throughout California, tourist destinations are experiencing the effects of a statewide power crisis. Spokespersons for hotels, theme parks and other attractions said they are beginning to see raised utility expenses that they have adopted conservation measures, however, they warned that travelers should expect to see and feel the consequences. Some negative effects, such as higher hotel rates, are likely to occur in the near future.
At the Sacramento-based California Hotel & Motel Assn., EVP/Jim Abrams said hoteliers statewide are getting “tons of calls” from concerned customers. He also noted that California tourism is at a crucial time because the negative effects of the power crisis could deter consumers that are making their summer vacation choices or meeting planners who are choosing convention sites.
