BIRMINGHAM, AL— Area hotels are landing conventions and other events previously scheduled for the Gulf Coast as a result of damage from the recent storms, according to published reports. The Sheraton Birmingham downtown already has picked up three conventions relocating from the Gulf Shores area. The Sheraton, as well as other area hotels, have vowed to work with the Alabama Hospitality Association to keep conventions unable to use the Gulf Coast hotels inside the state. The Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau is working with tourism officials in the Gulf Coast area to get a listing of meetings and other events that could be relocated to hotels in the metro area.
