ST. AUGUSTINE, FL The actor Bill Murray and his five brothers are set to open a restaurant at the World Golf Village Resort here in Northeast Florida in June.
The restaurant, to be called Caddy Shack, will be themed after one of Murray s most famous films by the same name.
The World Golf Village opened in 1998; its core hotel component is the 300-room World Golf Village Renaissance Resort. A Vistana vacation ownership property, which flies the Sheraton flag, is also part of the resort area, which is home to the St. John s Convention Center, the World Golf Hall of Fame and an IMAX theater.
The area will benefit from an upcoming Superbowl to be held in nearby Jacksonville (which sits 50 minutes north) in 2005. The World Golf Village Renaissance Resort will be a host hotel, and as a result, will host one of the contending teams, said the hotel s GM, Jeff Johnson. The Renaissance is owned and operated by John Q. Hammons Hotels, Inc.
When Jacksonville hosts the event, its hotel supply will be supplemented by a number of cruise ships which will dock in the city s harbor. The presence of the ships, which will provide additional accommodations for the influx of visitors expected to flood the city, was one of the factors that helped Jacksonville win the right to host the Superbowl over Miami, said Johnson. Jacksonville s latest hotel addition is the recently opened 1,000-room Adam s Mark Hotel. (4/20/01) Ruthanne Terrero
