WASHINGTON, D.C.— Brennan Beer Gorman Monk/Architects & Interiors here was named the architectural firm for the new Mandarin Oriental hotel currently under construction and due to open here in the spring of 2004. Portal Hotel Site, LLC, a joint-venture of Infragroup International, Armada Hoffler Construction Co. and Mandarin oriental Hotel Group, owns the hotel. BBGM has designed the 400-room luxury property in a French style while reflecting D.C.s Neoclassical architecture. The nine-story hotel, located along Maine Ave. between 13th and 14th Streets, will follow the original 1800s LEnfant plan. The massing and site program for the hotel follows the suggested guidelines of the master plan development for the 10.4-acre Portal site. Joining BBGM on the project team is interior design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates, structural engineering company Abiouness Cross and Bradshaw and MEP engineering firm Engineering Design Group.
