BURBANK, CA— Robert Balmer has been named general manager of the 488-room Hilton Burbank Airport and Convention Center located here at 2500 Hollywood Way. A veteran Hilton employee for more than 19 years, Balmer comes to Burbank from the Doubletree Bakersfield, where he has served as general manager since 2000. Balmer started his career in hospitality in 1985 with the Red Lion Hotel in Seattle as front office manager, and then worked in the opening rooms divisions for Red Lion Hotels in Colorado Springs, CO, and Sonoma County, CA. In 1988 he joined the Red Lion Hotel in San Jose, CA, as director of front office services, a position he also held at the Fess Parkers Red Lion Resort and the Red Lion Hotel in Costa Mesa. In 1993, he became director of rooms operations for the Red Lion Hotel in Ontario, CA, before getting his first general manager role at the Doubletree Hotel Eureka in 1996. He became general manager of the Doubletree Club Hotel at the Las Vegas Airport in 1998 and then of the Doubletree Hotel Bakersfield in 2000.
