SÃO PAULO— Atlantica Hotels International has announced the acquisition of Qualitá Management, a hotel-management company based in Brasília, the capital of Brazil and home to more than two million residents. The acquisition, effective immediately, will add three operational hotels with 530 rooms as well as eight hotels under construction – including one scheduled to open by year-end – to the fast-growing Atlantica Hotels International portfolio. Atlantica will open a regional office in Brasília to provide support to the new hotels. The new hotels, which are all owned and operated by Atlantica Hotels International, are the 100-room Clarion Hotel Bonaparte; the 330-room Metropolitan Hotel; and the 100-room Address Hotel in the city of Goiania. This is Atlantica Hotels International’s second management-company acquisition. Last year, the company acquired Buenos Aires-based HMI, a move that added two Buenos Aires Hotels— the Clarion Aspen Towers and Comfort Suites Aspen. The acquisition of Qualitá Management and the addition of the regional office add considerable strength to Atlantica Hotels International’s presence in Western Brazil. Atlantica is well on target to have 21 hotels in the region by the year 2004, including Choice, Starwood and Radisson brands as well as independent hotels. Last year, Atlantica Hotels announced development of the US$25 million Quality Hotel & Suites Lakeside Brasília, a 360-room property with a full-service marina located near the presidential palace and scheduled to open later this year. Four other western Brazil hotels are presently under construction. The acquisition of Qualitá Management follows last week’s announcement of a strategic alliance with Radisson Hotels & Resorts, a deal that will add an estimated 10 hotels to the Atlantica Hotels International portfolio within the next 36 months.
