NASHVILLE, TN— In something of a “the more things change, the more things stay the same” mode, Mike Amin accepted the Asian American Hotel Owners Association reins of command from outgoing Chairman Dan Patel here amid indications he expects to continue many of the association’s recent initiatives and undertakings…while hinting at some new twists as well. Signaling the official wrap-up of the 2002 AAHOA Conference & Trade Show, Amin followed Patel’s abridged checklist of the association’s noteworthy accomplishments of the past year— a joint marketing pool for insurance-purchase purposes, enhanced dialogues within the franchise community, and burgeoning member activism— with his take on his administration’s plans. Alluding to a similarity to The New York Yankees in that it takes more than talent alone to be successful, Amin noted he intends to help make the AAHOA “team” as strong as possible. As he explained, this would include fostering professional alliances with state and national associations as well as increased political involvement and visibility at the local, state and national levels. Also on Amin’s agenda are stepped-up educational and networking opportunities, for franchisee members as well as those operating independently, including further refinement and implementation of AAHOA’s Certified Hotel Owners’ program (which celebrated its first “graduating class” at this year’s conclave. Finally, Amin noted he is committed to fielding the strongest team possible. To that end, he suggested— in line with his quest to provide AAHOA with the best talent available in the course of bringing various issues to light— “the most effective way to ensure this is to bring outside appointments onto our committees.”—Michael Billig
