ST. CHARLES, MO— The new $360-million Ameristar Casino St. Charles here is expected to infuse the entire St. Louis metropolitan area and the state of Missouri with significant economic benefits when it opens Aug. 6. The project is anticipated to bring more than 800 new jobs and a windfall of commerce and tourism to the region, according to recent reports. Ameristar acquired the partially completed St. Charles property in 2000 and immediately pledged to complete the permanent facility initiated by the original owner. “We are pleased to say that not only did we fulfill that promise to the community, we have exceeded it both in the scope and amenity base provided to guests of the new Ameristar St. Charles,” said Ameristars chairman, president/CEO Craig Neilsen. When the complex debuts next week, it will replace Ameristars existing facility, increasing the number of gaming positions by approximately 80% and significantly expanding the breadth of entertainment amenities available to guests. In addition to the facilitys seven restaurants and live entertainment venues, guests can experience a completely new 130,000-square- foot casino, said company officials. St. Charles City Mayor Patti York was quoted as saying she is “thrilled” with not only the monetary investment Ameristar has made, but also the substantial increase in employment opportunities provided by Ameristar St. Charles. The property will be supported by 1,800 team members, which officially makes the company the largest employer in St. Charles.
