MINNEAPOLIS, MN— HOTEL BUSINESS® has learned AmericInn International’s first major print advertising campaign, set for a 14-ad run in USA Today, will coincidentally break this morning on the closing day of the chain’s convention being held here. Since the ad was negotiated on a “remnant” basis for a 50% savings, placement of the ad is at the discretion of the newspaper, which will run it when it has space in three Monday through Thursday regional editions A spokeswoman for AmericInn said she was informed Monday that the ad, designed by local agency DKY, will appear in the paper’s Life section in Tuesday’s edition. There are two variations on the ad messages, both playing off the chain’s masonry construction and slogan of “Quiet Nights. Rest Assured.” One shows a businessman leaving the property, with the tailgate: “He wasn’t the only guest at AmericInn last night. It just sounded that way.” The second ad is a “split-screen” image, one side depicting a businesswoman with her laptop, the other a family enjoying its room. The copy reads: “We build rooms that keep the noise out, and in.” The ad will appear in the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Chicago and Kansas City editions of the national newspaper. According to the spokeswoman, the distribution of those three regions combined covers the top five chainwide feeder markets of the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, Duluth and Fargo. “The circulation for the regions combined, every time the ad runs, totals 255,000,” she said. The newspaper campaign is part of an overall promotional and public relations push by the chain to drive greater awareness of the brand and its properties at the consumer level.— Stefani C. O’Connor
