CHICAGO The Allerton Crowne Plaza in Chicago has been awarded the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Award for Adaptive Reuse by the Landmark Preservation Council of Illinois (LPCI).
The 75-year-old hotel underwent a $60 million renovation last year. Using historic photographs and blueprints, architects restored its distinctive Italian Renaissance exterior to match the original fagade, while renovating the interior into a decorative modern hotel.
The Allerton Crowne Plaza is owned by FelCor Lodging Trust and operated by Bass Hotels and Resorts. (9/19/00)
