NEW YORK— The U.S. air strikes on Afghanistan threaten the nations airlines just as they were beginning to lure back travelers with tighter security and lower fares, said a report on CNN.com. This could also affect U.S. hotel profitability, particularly for those properties located in major U.S. cities, which rely heavily on air traffic to bring travelers. “The comeback may be slowed down now,” said Ray Neidl, airline analyst at ABN Amro in New York. “The momentum should come back, though, as long as there isnt another attack” on U.S. soil. On Wall Street as of midday Oct. 8, major airlines remained between 25% and 56% below pre-attack levels.
