WASHINGTON, D.C. American Hotel & Motel Association (AH&MA) President & CEO Bill Fisher is not seeking renewal of his 5-year contract when it expires this October. The hospitality veteran, who also holds a doctorate degree from Cornell University, may return to academia. “I feel I have made my mark in the industry, said Fisher. I would like to return to the classroom.

According to a source close to the situation, there is a short list of candidates already being considered to replace Fisher. All of the current candidates are veterans of the hotel industry.

Fisher is responsible for the establishment of the Legislative Action Summit, the creation of the Hospitality Industry Technology Integration Standards (HITIS), and a 200% increase in funds raised for the associations political action committee (AHMPAC).

John Russell, chairman of AH&MA, said in a recent letter that Fisher s dedication and diligence, especially in the area of government affairs, has left an indelible legacy for our organization. (3/8/01)
