KANSAS CITY, MO— Given Americans increasing work hours, the Fairmont Kansas City has partnered with SWANK Audio Visuals to meet all of the late-night business center needs of its hard-working guests. The new 24-hour business center, which launched last month, offers guests access to copiers, fax machines, and computers that can be activated using a credit card. Manned by SWANK representatives during regular office hours, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., the center is locked after 4 p.m. and can be opened by guests via room keys. The after-hours, self-service center allows guests to swipe their credit cards through each machine’s card-reading device. The device will display instructions on how to activate the equipment and will print a receipt of each transaction. “Previously the area was locked after 5 p.m. and the guest would have to come down and contact the concierge to get the center unlocked,” said Linda Waltz, director/sales and marketing. “Now they can come in and use the services without special arrangements.” After examining guest comment cards, and receiving feedback from employees working the second shift, the hotel determined the late-night business center hours were necessary, said Waltz. “Lately everyone is traveling with laptops and has a lot of work to do on the road. There’s always a need when you get back to your guestroom to print, or make copies, or use business center services,” she added. “We’ve found it a plus to have it open 24-hours.” The hotel previously worked with SWANK to supply business equipment and staff to the center. The new automated center required the addition of credit card swipers and a new door lock allowing access by use of guestroom keys. The Fairmont is currently looking to add some new equipment and services to the center. Having recently completed a $10 million renovation, the 366-room Fairmont Kansas City is the city’s only four-star, four-diamond property.
