HOUSTON, TX— The Adam’s Mark hotel here is on schedule to complete phase one of an $18-million transformation by February 2004. Leading the change to the soon-to-be Houston Marriott Westchase is Houston-based EDI Architecture (EDI), whose renderings and new designs for the hotel— destined to be the largest Marriott in this city— are said to reflect as inspiration for the property the feel of a “Texas living room.” For starters, a new palm court will grace the entrance and front door, and the lighting in the lobby is slated to change hues throughout the day to emulate a Texas sunset. Additionally, artwork around the hotel will reflect Texas history, with black-and-white prints featuring such symbolic Texas scenes as the University of Texas’ bell tower. Guestrooms are slated to be furnished with contemporary, dark mahogany furniture, and the rooms will have built-in working desk and wireless Internet access. Also new to the hotel will be the concierge’s lounge. Phase two of renovations is scheduled to begin with remodeling of the pool area, which is expected to remain an indoor/outdoor pool but is in line to be resurfaced and new furniture added. Furthermore, it was noted a fully enclosed cardio area is to overlook the pool, with new treadmills, Stairmasters and elliptical machines. Finally, the business center at the property is on course to be redesigned and the hotel restaurant is also expected to undergo a facelift and name change to the Texas Republic Grill. When completed, it is anticipated the hotel will offer 600 rooms and two Presidential Suites, in addition to more than 40,000 square feet of meeting space. Phase one will complete three floors and 268 guestrooms before Super Bowl XXXVIII; following the gridiron extravaganza, phase two of the renovations is slated to commence on the lobby, restaurant, front desk and the remaining guest suites.
