MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA A 71-room Formule 1 hotel will open in Dandenong, a business and commercial area here, on February 5. Formule 1 is the budget hotel brand of Accor, which also operates Sofitel, Novotel, Mercure, All Seasons and Ibis hotels in Australia.

The Formule 1 concept, which has seen the opening of 300 hotels in 11 countries, is based on providing an affordable and standardized product in key commercial areas that are close to major transport arteries. The brand has been likened to the “McDonalds of motel accommodation” with all rooms identical and offered at a uniform room rate. Over the next few months, Formule 1 will also make its debut in Brisbane and Canberra, increasing the network to 11 hotels in Australia. (1/30/01)
