Accor To Sell Restaurant Unit

PARIS Accor SA has agreed to sell 80% of itss Courtepaille restaurant unit to Barclays Private Equity for an undisclosed sum to focus on its lodging business. The company said it is seeking ways to obtain funds to make acquisitions at a time when the European hote industry is consolidating. Accor said it will retain a 20% stake in Courtepaille because some of the restaurantss are located next to its hotels. Courtepaille has annual sales of $80 million from 116 restaurants in France, according to Accor. (12/19/00)
