SAN FRANCISCO— Salvador Abaunza has been appointed general manager at the Mandarin Oriental, San Francisco. A 20-year veteran of the hotel industry, Abaunza was general manager of the Ventana Inn & Spa in Big Sur, CA prior to his appointment. In other experience, he served as general manager of the Prescott Hotel here in San Francisco. He has also held management positions at the Highlands Inn, Carmel, CA; the Claremont Resort and Spa, Berkley, CA; and the Mark Hopkins InterContinental, San Francisco. Mandarin Oriental operates 18 hotels in 11 countries. It has four additional properties in development including hotels in New York (opening late 2003); Washington, D.C. (2004); Hong Kong (2005); and Tokyo (2006).
