MONTREAL— The Hyatt Regency Montreal is undergoing a $16.6 million (US) renovation. Scheduled for completion in May 2005, the refurbishment is being overseen by the hotel’s new general manager, Joseph Khairallah. The first phase of the facelift consists of renovations to all the hotel’s 605 rooms and suites, as well as the swimming pool and fitness room. This segment of the project will cost $14.9 million (US), or $24,818 per room, according to Khairallah. Another $1.7 million has been earmarked for the hotel’s public areas, restaurant, bar, meeting spaces and hall, along with the creation of a new Regency Club room on the lobby level. Additionally, a new outdoor pavilion with capacity for 200 persons will to be built on the hotel’s patio. In December 2003, 1255 Jeanne-Mance became the Hyatt Regency Montreal. Prior to that, the Hyatt chain was not represented in Montreal since 1986. Owned by CNL Hospitality, the Hyatt Regency Montreal has 605 rooms on 12 floors and 34,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The hotel is linked to the Montreal Convention Centre via a subterranean passage.
